ASEAN AND UN SILENCE ARE THE INDICATION OF COMPLICIT OF MYANMAR GENOCIDE
Referring to AP news on Feb 1st, 2018, confirming at least 5 mass graves found in Gu Dar Pyin, where the bodies were on top of each other and the faces of the men half-buried in the mass graves had been burned away by acid or blasted by bullets. This shows nothing but a deliberate and well-planned state-sponsored terrorism by Myanmar. This has been ongoing for decades and so far nothing has been done to stop the atrocities.
Evidence after evidence have been reported by foreign news agencies and a worldwide outcry by international community to stop this, ASEAN just shrugged off the report, condemned the attack by ARSA but refused to address the Rohingya plight. Everything happened in their backyard but they choose to remain silent for honoring the non-interference policy rather than respecting human rights. This cowardice action will set a precedent to any other ASEAN countries to kill their unwanted minorities, expel them and call them ‘stateless’ by standing behind the non-interference policy. This action amounted to complicit to the murder and the suffering of the Rohingya.
As for the UN, calling it “the hallmarks of a genocide” doesn’t solve anything when they do realize the pattern of the violence inflicted by Myanmar army towards the Rohingya and yet they are unable to make a declaration regarding “genocide” until international tribunals could weigh the evidence. This is truly exasperating and disappointing. Myanmar already admitted on responsibility for one mass grave containing 10 bodies in the village of Inn Din, claiming those who had died were “terrorists” but offers no further evidence on the claim itself.
The European Rohingya Council urged strongly the two international agencies to act promptly before they fail the Rohingya like they failed in Rwanda and Srebrenica.
