ERC dissociates Dr. Wakar Uddin’s view expressed in recent VOA interview on ICC’s prosecution of genocide perpetrators against Rohingya
Amsterdam: The European Rohingya Council (ERC) dissociates the Director General of Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU), Dr. Wakar Uddin’s view expressed in recent VOA interview on ICC’s prosecution of genocide perpetrators against Rohingya. ERC strongly supports and seeks International Criminal Court (ICC)’s prosecution of perpetrators of Myanmar’s genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Rohingya. ERC also believes that ICC’s prosecution of genocide perpetrators is the only way to prevent future genocidal persecutions against Rohingya and other minorities, and it remains the overwhelming consensus among the majority of survivors of gravest crimes. All perpetrators and those who are complicit to genocide must be brought into international justice.
ERC also believes that international protection of Rohingya refugees during their return to and rebuilding of lives in their ancestral land, Arakan Myanmar, is utmost important until all pillars of Myanmar accept Rohingya as integral part of Myanmar and ensure their ethnic and citizenship rights.
Therefore, ERC urges member states of the European Union and OIC, UN and the international community to bring perpetrators of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Rohingya and other ethnic minorities into international justice system; and to ensure speedy protected return of Rohingya refugees to the protected homeland of Arakan. ERC also urges the international community to provide all necessary assistances during their return and rebuilding of the lives destroyed by Myanmar Armed Forces.
