Stockholm: Mr. Abul Kalam, a council member of the European Rohingya Council (ERC) and Chairman of Swedish Rohingya Association (SRA) took part in a panel discussion organized by the Amnesty International Working Group and Jus Humanis Human Rights Network in Lund University Sweden on December 15.
During the panel discussion, Mr. Kalam shed lights on how Myanmar Armed Forces committed horrible crimes against his relatives in Tola Tuli village and Northern Maungdaw, Rakhine Sate Myanmar.
The campaign which the United Nations calls “an ongoing genocide” against Rohingya, resulting in the expulsion of over 725,000 Rohingya from Northern Rakhine State where more than 390 Rohingya villages were burnt down and hundreds of women were raped.
He also focused on repatriation of Rohingya from refugee camps in Bangladesh to their homeland in Myanmar. He stressed that forced-repatriation will not work, and the repatriation must be dignified and voluntary with restoration of basic human rights including citizenship and protected returns to the original places.
Finally, Mr. Kalam answered questions from PhD students in law and concluded the event with a group photo.
