ERC welcomes Canada’s official declaration of Myanmar’s crimes against Rohingya as genocide
The European Rohingya Council (ERC) welcomes the decision taken by Canada’s House of Commons to declare and recognize Myanmar’s crimes against Rohingya as a genocide. This unanimous consent motion adopted by Canada’s House of Commons is unprecedented and courageous.
Rohingya have been subjected to genocidal persecution for decades. Human rights organizations, independent researchers and journalists, and United Nations all came to a conclusion that Myanmar’s persecution of Rohingya amounts to genocide. Now is the time Rohingya deserve justice and peace.
Myanmar’s genocidal persecution is still on-going. Therefore, ERC urges the government of Canada to take the lead immediately in ending the genocide; and bringing the perpetrators into international justice. ERC also urge the European governments to come onboard with Canada.
