Rohingya Protest at the Place de République Paris

Paris, France: Diverse communities from across France came together at the Place de République, Paris to show their solidarity stance with Rohingya people in Burma, who face severe human rights abuses being perpetrated by Myanmar armed forces.

The protest which took placed between 14:30 and 17:00 on Sunday, December 18, was jointly organized by NRB Welfare Society, Collectif Hameb and the European Rohingya Council (ERC) to raise the voice against the human rights abuses and pressure Aung San Suu Kyi led government which continues to place blockage on humanitarian assistance and protects the atrocious actions of the military.

The speakers jointly called Myanmar government to stop campaign of ethnic cleansing of Rohingya which has killed over 700 civilians, destroyed more than 3000 houses leaving approximately 50,000 homeless and raped at least 300 Rohingya women and girls by the armed forces since the campaign unfolded on October 9, 2016.

The protest also demanded the rights to live with dignity and human rights, allow humanitarian access to the displaced Rohingya and other 160,000 Rohingya in Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathedaung township, send Doctors Without Borders for rape victims, children, women and elderly person, and implement an independent investigation team led by the United Nations to unearth the evidence of the human rights abuses and bring perpetrators to international justice.

Dr. Maleq Forazi, President of NRB Welfare Society said, “we will mobilize the people against the ongoing genocide – killing of innocent Rohingya men, women and children, gang-raping of Rohingya women and girls, burning of children alive and houses, looting Rohingya properties and against all kinds of violence being committed by Myanmar Military state-terrorism.

We are going to file a criminal case in the International Criminal Court in The Hague on the ground of crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Myanmar armed forces and Aung San Suu Kyi led NLD government. We are also going to organize another protest in front of the National Assembly of France in the beginning of the next month,” he added.

The protest appeals all communities from across the world to stand up against the human rights abuses, which is being described by United States Commission on International Religious Freedom as “one of the most profound human rights tragedies of the 21st Century” on December 13, 2016.
